Tips
Video exporting
1. Codecs
A codec is a format for coding videos. Each codec has its own functions and characteristics. For the best results we recommend you use video codec H.264 (also referred to as MP4) and AAC (abbreviation for Advanced Audio Codec) for your audio codec. If you own a Windows computer, then WMV3 is a good choice for your video codec.
Please note: our programmers are not in favour of Apple ProRes codecs. These are very intensive codes that create problems on our machines. If you insist on using your own settings, please avoid the use of Apple ProRes.
2. Frame rate and key frames
If a "current" option is available for the frame rate, then please use that. If not, then 25 fps (frames per second) is standard for European countries. If you have an option for key frames, please use the same values that you have used for your frame rate.
3. Data rate
The data rate setting looks after the visual quality of your video and determines file size. In most video editors this happens in terms of kilobits per second (kbits/sec or kbps). Use 2000 kbits/sec for standard definition 4:3 video, 3000 kbits/sec for widescreen DV or 5000 kbits/sec for high definition footage.
4. Resolution
Use 640x480 resolution for your standard definition 4:3 video, 853x480 for widescreen DV and 1280x720 or 1920x1080 for high definition. If you have the option to adjust pixel aspect ratio, please set it at “1:1” or “1.00”, sometimes referred to as “square pixels”.
5. Deinterlacing
If you have a deinterlace option, then please enable it. This is very important, especially if you film in DV format. The reason is that if you do not enable deinterlace, your video will often show strange horizontal lines.
6. Audio settings
Select AAC for your audio codec, set the bit rate at 320 kbps and the sample rate at 44.100 kHz.
7. Acceptable video extensions
Although we prefer MP4, the following formats are also acceptable: 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, asf, asx, avi, divx, mts, m2t, m2ts, m2v, m4v, mkv, mov, mp4, mpe, mpeg, mpg, ogg, wmv.
